Upholstery Cleaning Method
Step 1 - Hoover the upholstery
Cleaning starts with a thorough hoover. Upholstery get covered in a fine layer of dust, causing the fabric to appear dull. It is important to remove all the insoluble soil before applying any liquid to the fabric. We use a Karcher CV 38/2 professional grade vacuum cleaner to remove as much of the insoluble soil as possible. We are often quite surprised what we find under the cushions of our customers sofa!
Step 2 - Pre-spray / agitate
Upholstery fabric to be cleaned is sprayed with a fine mist of a gentle but powerful detergent warmed to around 40 degrees. Indivdual stains are treated with specific products at this point. The fine spray is important as it avoids over wetting of the upholstery. Pre-spray starts to break down surface grease and grime for extraction later. Once treated, the fabric is agitated gently to work the product through the fabric. Depending on the material and the level of soiling on the upholstery, a variety of agitation methods are utilized.
Step 3 - Hot water extraction
Fabrics are rinsed with warm water and a gentle rinsing agent heated too 40-50 degrees with our specialist hot water extraction machine. This important part of the process removes the dirt, grime and used cleaning products. We use the excellent Alltec Advance 600 machine to completely rinse and clean to leave your fabrics looking clean and smelling fresh.
Ask us after this process and we can show you the colour of the water that has been removed from your upholstery, many customers are horrified!
Step 4 - Dry the sofa
The upholstered fabric will still be damp after extracting as much of the cleaning water from the previous step. Cushions are placed in suitable places around the house to get as much heat, light and airflow as possible. To dry the fabric as soon as possible is important that windows are left slightly open to allow the damp air out. Typically we will set up a powerful fan to start the drying process as soon as possible while we finish the job and pack up our equipment.
